Back to school, back to work, back to massive blog posts!

This semester I get to take the great, supper fun class Mass Comm Law, and boy is it fun. In addition I have three other class and two jobs so keeping up on the post have been hard so I’m going to write on four assignments I enjoyed the last few weeks.

First up a frat house reopening, The Phi Delta Theta house began the steps to reestablish themselves at the U they hosted a BBQ during rush week and I wanted the shot of the BBQ to work but the dead space between the Phi Delts sign and the flam was too big for it to work.
Thankfully one of the alumni shared an old copy of the U’s yearbook with the recruits and gave me a useable shot.

Next I shot the Real Salt Lake Game the next night and this was the fastest soccer game I have seen. In most games the first goal is the end of the game because it’s soccer so there was a goal in only 40 seconds it was so crazy I almost missed it.
I shot this Real game with one of our new photographers Jarad Reddekopp. What can I say about Jarad? Um, well he is Jarad.
He has no style look at that ugly yellow vest what the hell was he thinking when he put that on in the morning?;)

During some of the down time in the game I was crowd watching to see what I could see and I found this shirt that made me laugh. I also found a HUGE MULLET but the photos i took did not do it justice.

Oh and I got some good action. The election is approaching so I got to do two candidates the first was U political science professor Luke Garrott he is running for city council and I went door to door with him and one of his volunteers it was quite interesting to be on the other side of the door and see the entire range of responses.
Spending time with a politician was a refreshing view that they are not always scummy ass holes. Luke was a nice guy and I enjoyed my time with him.
Mayoral candidate Ralph Becker hosted a free showing of the movie “who killed the electric car” and a gathering beforehand. So I shot the gathering but it was in the Broadway theater and I did not have much room to move around so I had a lot of hail marry shots of the group that worked I guess.
I wanted to get the Ralph Becker sign with a crowd and I loved this shot at the time but during editing I lost a lot of my love of it.
That concludes this massive blog I will try to keep up with more in-depth posts.

What is more patriotic then Soccer?

I wish I had posted earlier but I have had some other shit I have had to do but ,Last week for the 4th I got to celebrate by working at the Real Salt Lake Game this game I decided it was time to try something new so instead of shooting from the field I shot from underneath the score board at the south of Rice-Eccles Stadium. My thinking was that this angle will give me about the same shots as the field does at only a higher angle so this should produce a cleaner background. I got the better background.

I got a lot of better headers, well I would of if I had not had bad timing I got one really good one and the rest were just ok I thought.
This is the one I like the most.
This one is just funny.
This one was also a fun picture the Real player got thrown to the ground by the Toronto player and when he got up he received a yellow card! I don’t understand soccer sometimes! In addition to the Real game they had a firework show that I tried to get some shots but I did not know where the fireworks were being launched from so I did not have the best position so next time I have a plan for better firework pictures.
After the fire work show I hurried out of the stadium to get to the office because for the first time in a while I had a tight deadline. When I was walking up 5th south I saw a fire on the northwest side of the Eccles tennis center, My mistake was that I stayed on the street trying to get shot of the crowd reaction and by the time I went around back the fire fighters were stopping me and the fire was almost out. I know I could of got through to the fire if I was more persistent but I was still carrying the 400 on my back so I was getting very tired and did not insist on getting through I took what little I and went to the office.

GOOOAL!!! GOOOAL!!!

On Saturday after unwinding with a friendly game of disk golf with my good friend of 20 years Derek I got to go shoot Real Salt Lake soccer. This time they actually scored a goal and it was a more exciting game with 3 goals!!! To top off the day I got some good shots!

My best shots came when Eskandarian cut in from the sideline to get a shot off and I don’t know soccer but I think this should have been a foul when he got pulled down by another player, ether way it made some cool shots. I have to give Eskandarian credit for getting up without the medical staff coming out. Some players have to have them come out every time they fall it gets old, but Eskandarian did it the right way. This one makes me mad that it had to happen so early in the game because the background was so bright if they could of made this play later in the game it would be really cool looking picture.

Real Salt Lake

I would of posted this last night but I had a quick paper to do so I'm doing it a day late. I shot Real Salt Lake soccer last night for the second time but this game they SCORED!!!

This game also gave me a nice injury shot. This is one of the biggest problems i have with soccer is the amount of fake injuries. Enough soccer bashing on to the photos.

This game I wanted to get a good goalie shot, goalies need some love and I often focus on the offence to much. After a shot form a KC player the players all parted and gave me a clear view of the goalie.

Even with my success at getting my goalie shot I felt the night was a failure because the game went in to OT tied at 1 and Real got the game winner in the second half of the over time but I was moving around and missed the goal and did not get much of the celebration but i did get i shot of the yellow card given because of the celebration the MLS must be trying to be like the NFL and not allowing any fun in the game.

The Night was not all a wash i got two good great shots in a short sequence. A Real player and a KC player were chasing the ball, as they ran they were pushing and shoving to gain position. That lead to the Real player taking a spill right in front of me it was the best shots i got that Night so i was excited.

In the end I was happy with the game I got some good stuff and it did not rain or snow that was the best part of the night
